Les interviews de Leo Humphrey
Les interviews de Leo Humphrey : For starts is Alyssa Baker
Alyssaa baker : My name’s Alyssa Baker and I am a 16-year-old grade 11 student. Besides being a singer-songwriter I like to dance, I am currently a vegan, I have two cats and I love to bake.
Les interviews de Leo Humphrey : at school you were how?
Alyssa baker : I’m currently still in high school. I’m a pretty average 16-year-old. I try to get good grades, I’m involved in a few clubs and I’m looking forward to graduation next year.
Les interviews de Leo Humphrey : what is your best memory as high?
Alyssa baker : (I think you’re asking me what my best moment in high school was, correct me if I’m wrong ) My best memory as a high school student was making really supportive and good friends.
Les interviews de Leo Humphrey : and the worst
Alyssa baker : My worst memory was probably the moment in grade 8 that I realized that high school is nothing like elementary school. I had no idea what I was in for and it was a lot more work than I thought it would be., but I’ve learned a lot since then.
Les interviews de Leo Humphrey : your favorite material?
Alyssa baker : My all time favorite band is The Red Hot Chili Peppers. I first heard them when I was around 7 years old and I have always been struck by their meaningful lyrics and musicality. However, I listen to almost any style of music. A few other favorites are The Avett Brothers, Ed Sheeran, Feist and Taylor Swift.
Les interviews de Leo Humphrey : a rule that you have learnt at school and do you remember even
Alyssa baker : A lesson I learned is that as you get older people expect more of you and if you want to be treated like an adult, you have to start acting like one.
Les interviews de Leo Humphrey : how would you define your music universe
Alyssa baker : My music universe is made up of every song I came across, all the things that inspire me to write, my music lessons, the hours I spend planning my career and the people I meet. Everything I come in contact with becomes a part of my music universe because music is my life.
Les interviews de Leo Humphrey : can you give me your musical journey (discography)
Alyssa baker : The EP that I released in March was my first official release, other than that I had done some rough demo tracks in February of 2013.
Les interviews de Leo Humphrey : what was your first approach with music?
Alyssa baker : My first approach to music was to learn to sing. I started to sing when I was just under 2 years old. We always had the radio on in my house, so I started memorizing lyrics and singing along. One of the first songs I learned all the lyrics to was “All Star” by Smash Mouth and this was much to the dismay of my family because I would not stop singing it. Eventually, I asked for singing lessons as a kindergarten graduation gift (my parents encouraged positive reinforcement) and I haven’t stopped. I moved on to multiple instruments and songwriting from there.
Les interviews de Leo Humphrey : your life it is music or nothing?
Alyssa baker : My life is entirely based around music. I’m always thinking about my next steps, my songwriting and my future. It is one of the things in my life that I am the most passionate about and it takes up the most of my time. I completely love it.
Les interviews de Leo Humphrey : what are your influences
Alyssa baker : I am influenced by a variety of artists for different reasons. Ed Sheeran, The Red Hot Chili Peppers and Dan Mangan’s styles of lyric writing is very inspiring to me. They have a unique way of writing that is unlike anyone else’s and I’d like to develop that for myself. Artists such as Feist and Lily Allen, who have a similar quirky pop sound to me, are also big influences. I am also very inspired by the indie music scene because, although I want my music to have wide appeal, I love to have something unique and offbeat about my sound and indie music is great for that.
Les interviews de Leo Humphrey : give me a Word and why this word?
Alyssa baker : My word would be quirky because it encompasses my personality and my music.
Les interviews de Leo Humphrey : a song that inspires you and why?
Alyssa baker : A song that I find very inspiring at the moment is “Call and Answer” by Jordan Klassen because he is a Vancouver artist who is doing really well and this song showcases a sound that I can relate to.
Les interviews de Leo Humphrey : what is the person who inspires you the most?
Alyssa baker : Anthony Kiedis because he is the most inspiring lyricist I’ve ever come across.
Les interviews de Leo Humphrey : with which artist would you like Duet (any category confused)?
Alyssa baker : I would like to do a duet with Ed Sheeran because despite all of his fame he hasn’t changed his unique sound and I believe I’d have a lot to gain from co-writing with him.
Les interviews de Leo Humphrey : and artist hip hop?
Alyssa baker : I’ve actually already done a duet with a hip-hop artist called Copasetic Soulz. I sang the melody in the chorus and he rapped. His solo album will be released soon and that track will be on it.
Les interviews de Leo Humphrey : what artist is better than the others and why?
Alyssa baker : It’s hard to pick one artist because I love so many for different reasons. I listen to so many styles and it’s really hard to compare, but all the artists I’ve listed in this interview are definitely in my top favorites.
Les interviews de Leo Humphrey : can you draw up a balance sheet of 2013
Alyssa baker : The best things about 2013 were starting the recording process, playing over 35 shows during the summer and solidifying my sound. Some of the negatives would have been that many of my projects had some unforeseen delays and this set me back a bit.
